Five areas of the city primed for car-free living.
With its beautiful weather, diversity of landscapes, and a push for low-cost and zero-emission transportation (see any electric scooter lining the sidewalks), Los Angeles has the potential to be a prime destination for resident bicyclists. Riding your bike saves money, improves cardio, and allows you to experience the city in refreshing ways. Here are a few of the most bike-friendly neighborhoods in Los Angeles:
- The Pico community in Los Angeles is arguably the city’s most bikeable location.
- Trips to the library, a visit to historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and most daily needs are all accessible by bike.
- The Palms community has bike paths that lead to residential areas, restaurants, and parks.
- Point of interest: The Museum of Jurassic Technology.
- The Hollywood Studio District has a good bicycle infrastructure that makes it easy to navigate to restaurants in the area.
- The ability to run most errands within a small geographic area makes this an ideal home for bikers.
If you’re stuck behind the wheel during the week and need a weekend bike ride to break up the monotony, try one of these scenic options:
- Marvin Braude/Pacific Coast Bike Path
- A 22 mile stretch along the Pacific coast that can take riders from Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades all the way to Torrance Beach. The trail also connects to the Ballona Creek Path, allowing you to ride from Culver City to Palos Verdes, if you have the time, and stamina.
- Griffith Park
- If you want an easy ride, try biking along Crystal Springs Drive and Zoo Drive. If sweating is your goal, try one of the park’s several hills, such as Mount Hollywood, which has multiple roads leading to different areas of the park.
